Well…, My Title says it all, the internet has its phishers, liars, thieves, and con-men same as every other social strata in the Universe. One universal truth about mankind is that “all have sinned.” But the scum of the internet are more than just sinners; they are also the scum of the earth. The buzzards, catfish, possums, coyotes, and other predators and scavengers present in Nature provide a useful God-given purpose. They clean up the dead and dying, the injured and maimed, the weak and struggling, and the “trash” victims created by the environment.
When it comes to man kind in general, the scammers, thieves, con-artists, liars, and such ARE the “trash” and they create the victims. Age old sayings like “salt of the earth”, “hard working”, “word is my bond”, “straight and narrow”, “straight laced”, “God fearing man or woman”, and “my kind of people” describe what we all should aspire to be or become. Unfortunately, there will always be those bottom feeders who “clean up” by making what they do unclean.
I don’t think anyone working online will deny that bottom feeders exist on the “www”. With a 97+% failure rate of those seeking to make money online, many will think they have been scammed when really their failure may be mostly their own. But the hype is so unbelievable and prevalent and the technical skills are so wanting among so many that opportunities abound for those who want to take advantage of another’s ineptitude, greed, or irrationality.
So…the question arises: “What can you do to protect yourself from the bottom feeders?” I am so happy you asked me that question.
The first thing I would say in answer is, “Approach your online business like a smart business man or woman.” By this I mean do things that many people in business do not do. Many mistakes can be avoided when you set goals and write them down, develop a business plan, seek guidance and help in areas that you lack skills and knowledge, and use a good old fashioned common sense approach to tasks. You were created with a design and purpose and if you (and I) would live accordingly we would avoid some if not most of the traps we allow ourselves to fall into.
The second thing I would tell you is: “Find a Mentor.” When I first began online this was a foreign concept. Consequently, the term “guru” came into play. The guru uses a modus operandi that is uniquely different from that used by a true Mentor. Gurus use and operate from a status of superiority and want to take advantage of your lack of knowledge and skills and the vulnerability that forces on you. A Mentor on the other hand — one that is worth his/her salt — will work with you to develop your skills and increase your knowledge and try to bring you along to his/her level. It is called duplication, or the power of one becoming the power of two.
Unfortunately, many and maybe most of those on the bottom (not bottom feeders), want the Mentor to do it for them. They do not want to leave their comfort zone and fight the “nay-sayers”. And the Mentor has no possible way to do it all for them. Nor should she/he even want to do anything for someone who does not want to learn or do it himself/herself. I am amazed at how many people there are trying to do things without a clue and who make no effort to learn, build technical skills, and otherwise change their status quo.
Today’s buzz about Attraction Marketing is the key ingredient necessary. Unless and until you develop the desire to “be all that you can be” and become the best person you can become… until you are working on improving your knowledge base and skill level, you do not deserve a mentor’s time and success coaching. In fact, until those qualities exist in you, any attempts to mentor/coach you will be limited and/or doomed to failure. A Mentor can help you but cannot do it for you although some will try.
Many people are trying to make money without a hosted domain, which means they are not branding themselves. That is as foolish as “peeing in the wind”. You ladies won’t appreciate that like the men, or maybe you will more. The crude expression is used to make a point… that being – successful activity must be focused and targeted. Many online today have no clue how to build a Lead Capture page and set up an Autoresponder with it. I was told once by a mentor that 95% of the people online have no knowledge of how to ftp and write simple html commands. I did not believe it at the time because I did know how but since then I have changed my mind. However, knowing where I am today and where I want to go, I readily believe that the skill level is wanting among a lot of the 97 percenters out there.
So, the third thing I would advise in answering the above question is this: “Find a Mentor with a Team.” You see, working with a Mentor, as good as it is, has real life limitations. She/He is only one person. If He/She is working with other people at the same time and marketing his/her programs, time for instruction is limited. And if you are not at the skill level of your Mentor, which you aren’t, and that of fellow students, you cannot easily duplicate yourself which limits your ability to duplicate yourself. Teamwork allows the Mentor to farm out and designate, directly or indirectly, certain tasks to Team Leaders who can fill the gap. This speeds up the learning curve for all concerned. It also increases your results at marketing as the Team fills in the gaps for you that the Leaders fill for the mentor.
This is the greatest win/win scenario an aspiring online marketer can latch on to. To get started, just complete the opt in form on this Blog and/or contact me on Skype: mark_moffett . For more about what MRT can do for you see my article.
